Coffee - Heritage

Problem: In Madrid's upscale Palace Hotel, steps away from the Prado museum, a landlord mandated renovation gave the opportunity to create a brand flagship.

Insight: With Spain's rich coffee house culture, the neighborhood's historic significance, and the brand's developing "artisan" store concept- look to embrace this coffee heritage.

Solution: The new concept recreates Spain’s cafe culture with rich wood casework & moulding, worn leathers, neutral paints, checkerboard floors, chalkboard menus, burlap artwork, and modern wrought-iron and exposed bulb fixtures.  Architectural significance was implied through faked beams and arches- elevating the basic concrete box shell. The design’s commitment to sustainability achieved LEED Platinum certification. This project was also chosen by Starbucks’ internal store design team as the year’s best renovation.
