UCLA Studies - Elephant in the Room

Prompt: Following case studies of bent-plywood furniture- extrapolate concepts into a lobby for UCLA arts building.

Insight: Despite being the arts building, the lobby included no completed art nor space to create art.  "where is the art" became the proverbial elephant in the room.

Solution: Taking queue from Eames' bent ply elephant stool, imagined the elephant taking up the room, forcing visitors to walk under, interact and consider 'the elephant'.  The elephant would be recreated with a series of panels over CNC cut lattice structure.  The exterior would be in the original wood while the interior would be covered in chalk board, encouraging students to use the internal space to meet, create and share art.
