UCLA Studies - Pavilion Entry
Prompt: Design an outdoor pavilion entry for MoCA's Geffen gallery building. The gallery is facing a parking lot and tucked away from street view behind the Japanese American Museum in Los Angeles' Little Tokyo Neighborhood.
Insight: The entry has an opportunity to abstractly reference Japanese culture while also attracting visual interest and wayfinding for visitors.
Solution: A texture of abstracted cherry blossoms built from curved translucent plastic gently filters and patterns the light, emulating the sensation of walking through a sunlit cherry tree orchard. The overall form is based on Japanese fishing nets- capturing museum goers and funneling them to the entrance.
